The Moravians

    The Moravian Church is an evangelical Protestant Church with emphasis placed on the good news that salvation comes through Jesus Christ as personal Savior. The Church is the fellowship of believers who have experienced the good news in their lives. Underlying this is the faith that the Bible is the Word of God.

Founded 60 years before the Reformation in 1457, the Moravian Church is one of the oldest continuing Protestant denominations. Begun in Central Europe by the followers of John Hus, it spread to Germany and then in 1735  came to America. Early American centers were at Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Lititz Pennsylvania, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

We do not stress a rigid theology, but interpret Christianity as a way of life centered around Christ and His teachings. Our creed can be summed up with the motto:

In essentials, unity;

In non-essentials, liberty;

In all things, love.
